Jake Owen Is Optimistic

Jake Owen's dad starts radiation treatments Wednesday (Feb. 20) at the prestigious Mayo Clinic, two months after being diagnosed with cancer.

Jake noted recently that it'll be a tough road for his father, Steve. "His cancer started on the back of his tongue. They shoot your radiation here, you lose all your taste buds for, they said, at least a year," the country star said.

"And because they're five days a week for six and a half weeks, they're gonna shoot him in his neck, he's gonna have a horrible sore throat," he continued. "So, if you think about sore throat and you can't taste anything, it's kind of hard to eat and keep stuff like that. So, that's gonna be tough on him."

Nonetheless, Jake's spirits seem to be upbeat: "I encourage everyone to sing in the shower. Loud," Jake posted Tuesday (Feb. 19) on Twitter.

Ultimately, Jake said he likes his dad's chances. "My dad's been good at everything he does. He'll beat it. He'll be good, and I want to maintain that as well, you know, that mind-set," he said.
